In North Carolina on a two-lane roadway (e.g. in front of WMJH and MHS), all traffic from both directions MUST stop for stopped school buses. However, in North Carolina on a roadway of four lanes or more WITH a median or turning lane (221 N), ONLY traffic following the bus should stop.

Time to Shop These great readers have been cashing in their hard earned Accelerated Reader points for some great prizes. Students have worked hard this year meeting their goals. Many students have taken home new books, lunch boxes, water bottles, and much more! They also had the opportunity to purchase tickets to events such as a popsicle celebration, Asheville Tourist ball game, and a snow cone celebration. The last reading deadline is May 30th. Students will receive a ticket for every time they met their goal this year to put in the drawing for our awesome end of the year prizes. We will hold our drawings for the bikes, Kindle, telescope, and American Girl Doll gift certificate soon! Be sure to check out our Reading Widget at the bottom of the webpage. North Cove students have read and tested on over 14,000 books this year! Way to go! Keep reading!!! Catching Readers Not Speeders North Cove received a special visit from the Highway Patrol Tuesday. They were out "Catching Readers not Speeders"! Troopers visited with students after holding their district meeting at our school. North Cove's Future Troopers had an opportunity to spend some time with their heroes and show off their reading skills. Be sure to check out the Thursday May 16th edition of the McDowell News for a complete article on the Highway Patrol's efforts to contribute and be more visible in our schools. BOGO Book Fair Thank you so much for your support of our BOGO Book Fair! We hope everyone was able to stock their shelves for summer reading. Happy Reading!! North Cove Volunteers make all the difference!
North Cove Volunteers were honored with a reception on Friday, April 26th. Festivities included special speaker Gloria Burrow, Executive Director of McDowell Volunteer Center. The Volunteer celebration included snacks and cake which was graciously donated from Bi-Lo. Tables were beautifully decorated with annuals that were donated by Painter's Greenhouse that were then given to volunteers after the celebration. We appreciate our volunteers and all that they give to our school! Thank you so much for making our school a better place!
Climbing High at North Cove We are so excited to finally have the climbing wall installed in our gymnasium. Our goal was to raise enough money through our Box Tops collection to make this purchase! We did it! ! Students will be able to enjoy the new equipment very soon! Our PTO also made a generous donation that helped purchase the safety mats that will be used with our new equipment. We can’t wait to see our students climb to new heights in their adventures in P.E.!
