                                                 Mission Statement

The mission of North Cove Elementary is to educate all students to become responsible, lifelong learners who have the skills, knowledge and self-confidence to be successful in our competitive, global society.

We believe:
  • Every person can learn.
  • Individuals learn at different rates and in different ways.
  • Every person deserves a loving, accepting environment that nurtures individual interests and talents.
  • Education and learning are the collaborative responsibility of students, family, school, and community.
  • Global education and understanding are essential components of education.
  • Family education and involvement are vital components in the education process.

We will continue to combine the best resources of the children, school personnel, parents, and community in order to provide an environment suitable for intellectual, social, physical, emotional, and moral growth of each child.

  Parents...

We would like to introduce an addition to our online Parent Resources. You will find a link below to The Parent Institute Newsletter titled "Building Readers".  This newsletter has been created as a resource for families to help children become better readers.  You will find great advice, book lists, and much more.

You can also access this and other great resources using the side navigation bar labeled  "Building Readers."

Congratulations to North Cove Elementary's Mrs. Julie Thacker

Mrs. Thacker will represent the teachers of McDowell County and our school in reverence to Governor Pat McCrory's establishment of the North Carolina Governor's Teacher Network. This program encourages teacher's from across the state to develop and share best practices centered around classroom instruction and professional development for fellow teachers.
Out of 1,500 applications, only 450 teachers were selected which included 5 from McDowell County.
Congratulations Mrs. Thacker!

NC State Law requires that ALL rising 6th graders receive the Tdap vaccine before they can begin their sixth grade school year. The vaccine protects against serious illness resulting from tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s healthcare provider or North Cove Elementary if they have any questions concerning the Tdap vaccine. You may also contact McDowell County Health Department at (828) 652-6811. For additional information on the required vaccine visit McDowell County Health Department website by clicking the link below:

Thanks Kate B. Reynolds Foundation! Our school recently received a grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Foundation to improve and add to our existing playground.  Take a look at the work in progress!  Crews have been hard at work refurbishing the fall materials for the K-2 Playground.  Our K-6 playground also now has a paved pad for basketball, four square, and hopscotch.  We are so excited to have these additions and improvements to our school and community!
